Day 1

We decided to do a trip to Edinburgh together because none of us (Nina, Nene, Ming) ever went to Scotland. Every one of us was interested in the Architecture and Scottish culture. We decided that everyone has one day to plan.

The first day was my day and I decided that we will have a look at our area first. I wanted to go to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. I was very impressed with the outside of the building, the garden was very beautiful and I really missed nature. I was very inspired by the artworks from Ruscha. There was one painting with the caption "The END". It was a widescreen format, and an imitation (Trompe l´oeil) effect to convey the scratched surface of film, this painting seems to suggest the qualities of classic Hollywood movies. Moreover, the gothic lettering, encased by overgrown grasses may indicate the decline of the golden age. Furthermore, I liked his `Pool series´, I love the colour of the residential pools that were shown alongside a broken glass, suggesting peril amidst paradise. I like the way he shows luxury and leisure as an empty place.

We went to some vintage shops afterward and explored the old town. We had lunch together but I decided that we will cook something in the evening. I enjoy cooking and I think it´s great to do it together and speak about various topics we wouldn´t normally speak about in class.

Day 1

The architecture is very impressive in Edinburgh! I didn´t know where to look first. I think the architecture was one of the main reasons why we all wanted to go there. I was a bit shocked to find a gift shop and a café in one church and a photo allowance for 2 Pounds!

This mirror or glass was very fascinating. We looked like ghosts in it! I wonder if we could do a shooting there.

Day 1

That was our dinner/breakfast for the next day. I really liked this creation of a sweet pizza that we prepared together but Nene didn´t like it that much sadly. She gave one pizza to a homeless person the next day which was very sweet of her!

Day 2

Today was Ming´s day. We prepared breakfast together as we all thought preparing food together is fun and a good opportunity to lern from each other. I am always interested how other people cook and esppeciallly because we are all from different backgrounds. It is very interesting to see different routines for preparing food.

We went to Edinburgh castle, the architecture is amazing in Edinburgh! I was a bit shocked when we went to a church because there was a cafe and a gift shop inside and they wanted to charge people if they take pictures. I think it is inappropriate to have a gift shop in a church. I also realized that there were only men on the window artworks and no women. I never realized that before in a church. We went to a portrait museum and the building was very impressive and detailed from the inside! I liked the small boxes of the first photographic studio in Edinburgh. I could imagine doing something like that for my publication. Another interesting photography was `Leah´s bedroom´from MArgaret Mitchell. Although the work is highly personal to the photographer, the images sensitively grapple with social issues that affect many children and families today. I think she wants the viewer to ask themselves a question about how society operates, how choice is related to opportunity and environment. To see that lives are complex, as are wants and needs, and that sometimes people choose what they do because actually, not much has been offered in the first place.

We went to a beautiful viewing point and we had the chance to see Edinburgh from there and also the sea. The view was stunning! We had dinner in a typical Scottish restaurant to explore the Scottish cuisine and culture. We ended the day by viewing a small light exhibition which was very appealing because it was surrounded by the beautiful architecture that looks like castles.

Day 2

This is the parent´s house of the photographer. It is very intimate to show the place you grew up in public. The way the picture is taken gives me a feeling that I want to know how it was living there and how her childhood must have been.

Day 2

I took this image in a the National portrait gallery. The paintings are amazing and the energy in this building makes you feel like you are in Harry Potter. We felt quiet often like we are in a different decade! We enjoyed our time there a lot. I personally can´t go with everyone to a museum because sometimes you need space for yourself to look at art. We are all like minded people and we got well along with each other.

Day 2

Of course we had to see Edinburgh castle and bagpiper! We walked a lot on that day and I had the feeling that we saw almost everything of Edinburgh now it seems small compared to London. It´s such a lovely place with many friendly and welcoming people. Nene and Ming tried to teach me some words in Japanese and Korean! I like the fact that we are all from different countries and can learn from each others cultures.

Day 3

The last day was Nene´s day. We went to a Botanical garden. I love Botanical gardens and I visit them not often enough, so I was very happy to have the opportunity to go there. It reminded me of my childhood as I often visited Botanical gardens with my father. I like the smell inside of the glasshouses and the tropical temperature. I get inspired by the stunning bright colours of the flowers and I saw many flowers that I have never seen before. Some of the leaves had amazing "patterns" and textures. I think there is nothing more beautiful than nature. We bought fudge at a very traditional and famous fudge shop and browsed in some vintage jewellery stores and Keltish jewellery stores. We went to the Scottish Natural History museum and this museum was my favorite from our trip. The building was very bright and filled with light. They had everything from animals, fashion to modern technology. I was especially interested in the 3d printers as I would like to learn more about the them and the options we have and will have in the future with technology.

Day 3

This image informed my work for print fetishism a lot! I wasn´t sure in which direction for unit 7 I would like to go and when I had a look at the pictures at home again I was so inspire by the colour and pattern of the flowers and the leafs! I enjoyed the botanical garden the most on our trip

Day 3

There were some small light exhibitions around Edinburgh on our last day. It reminded me a bit of Skylar in London. I like light installations, when I went to Berlin a few weeks ago I visited Kraftwerk which is basically a huge warehouse that was transformed into a gallery space with a massive light installation. The interesting thing at the lights in this picture is that they were changing the colour and you were allowed to go inside.
